B-W Sweeps OAC Player of the Week Awards
For the second time this month, the Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team has swept the Ohio Athletic Conference Players of the Week awards.
Senior second baseman Kevin Brown was named Hitter of the Week on Monday after going four for six with a double, six runs and five RBIs last week. He collected four of his five RBIs in the Yellow Jackets’ 12–5, home-opener win against Notre Dame College on March 22.
Junior pitcher Brian Pille picked up his first collegiate victory in the Notre Dame game, and was rewarded with Pitcher of the Week honors. In six innings of work, he allowed just one earned run and racked up seven strikeouts.
Two weeks ago, senior outfielder Mike Farrell and junior pitcher Clayton Kynkor won Player of the Week awards for their performances at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Ft. Myers, Fla. The Jackets went 6–3 at the Classic, outscoring their opponents 60–43.
Farrell hit .423 with three doubles and three home runs at the Classic. In nine games, he scored eight runs and knocked in eight. Kynkor won both of his starts on the trip, allowing only a single earned run in 13 innings and striking out 11 batters.

Dan Melito Breaks B-W Career Doubles Record
Senior right fielder Dan Melito broke the Baldwin-Wallace College school record for doubles in a career during yesterday’s 16–6 victory over Walsh University in North Canton.
Melito led off the fifth inning with a double to right–center field, bringing his career total to 37 and breaking the previous record of 36 held by Phil Stringer ’90, Joel Nichols ’96 and Pat Shannon ’03. His record-breaking double followed a three-run home run in the third inning that put the Yellow Jackets ahead 11–1. He finished the game with two of the Jackets’ 17 hits, four RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
Melito leads the Jackets with seven doubles so far this season. He led the team with ten doubles last year and 13 in 2004.

Akron Ballplayers Help B-W Baseball Team
Yesterday’s Akron Beacon Journal reported that “seven former area high school baseball players are contributing to the Baldwin-Wallace college team for the 2006 season.”
They are: Kevin Brown and J.D. Fullerton, both of Cuyahoga Falls; Brandon Fredericks of Revere; Nick Haught of Walsh Jesuit; Shaun Slater of Norwayne; Zach Hoffman of Crestwood and Steve Miller of CVCA.
Brown, an Academic All-OAC and Academic All–District IV second baseman, is off to a great start in his senior season. He leads the team with a .421 batting average and a .564 on-base percentage. Fullerton, a junior pitcher, is 1–0 in four appearances as a long reliever. Slater, last year’s Outstanding Freshman, is hitting .333 with nine RBIs in 11 games as an outfielder and designated hitter.
Miller is a sophomore pitcher who transferred to B-W from West Palm Beach (Fla.) Community College, and Hoffman is a sophomore third baseman. Haught, a catcher, and Fredericks, a pitcher, are both promising freshmen who made the varsity roster for the Yellow Jackets’ spring trip to Fort Myers, Fla.
